South Shields in Tyne & Wear has a population of fewer than 90,000, and with the exception of detached houses provides a good supply of properties to a buoyant property market. The detached properties are the highest priced homes but they are not over priced, 4 to 6 bedroom detached properties can sell for between £400,000 - £600,000 and many of the properties have been improved or refurbished before coming onto the market. There are also a few hundred flats, semi-detached and terraced houses for all budgets and there is a noticeable difference between the price of detached and non-detached properties. Four bedroom terraced properties can be bought for £150,000 less than detached four bedroom properties in the area, and the abundance of terraced homes has meant there are always bargains to be picked up in the South Shields area.
South Shields and its position on the Tyne River have a great heritage from the days of shipbuilding, but while South Shields recognises its past via places like the beach at Littlehaven, today there is a vibrant nightlife in the area with many restaurants, pubs and entertainment venues.
