The population of Shrewsbury has grown steadily to just over 70,000, with the area being the product of Local Government reorganisation in 2009. It is perhaps most famous for winning the Britain in Bloom and Entente Florale European competitions. It has a small supply of properties to rent with the largest group of properties being flats, this has created a market where rental prices are high with 3 bedroom houses attracting rents of £1,500 pcm and larger properties reaching above £1,700 pcm, even studio flats attract rents of £450 at the higher end of the market. Properties for sale are far more plentiful with a few hundred houses available for sale and a couple of hundred flats. Four, five and six bedroom properties are available for well over half a million, and for those looking for larger properties there are houses available for over £2,000,000. While there are some one bedroom flats and apartments on the market for around £65,000, the better one bedroom properties are attracting prices nearer to £90,000 and £100,000. Property in Shrewsbury is perhaps a good place for property investors or landlords to buy, as the rental income is very healthy and the prices look set to rise due to the scarcity of rental properties.
