Even a thousand years ago, Oldbury was 'old' the name comes from the old English, meaning 'the old fortified town'.
Brandhall is among the newer parts of Oldbury, with redeveloped low rise housing making it a popular place for buyers, and local doctors and shops making it a convenient place to live. However the planned nature of the area can make it a little characterless.
Prices are falling in the Oldbury area, making for some quite affordable homes on the market. Rentals are also toward the cheaper end of normal, and it's possible to find some good-sized homes without spending a fortune. The old terraced homes are pleasantly cheap, with detached homes still at reasonable prices. Flats are unusual to the market, and tend to be within converted houses rather than in high-rises. It's quite a gentle town with a sizeable population of retired people and younger families.
The old age of the town means that there are some rather special properties available, many with original features still intact, but prices will reflect the rarity of these homes.
