North Down is a predominantly suburban area, centered around the 55,000 strong town of Bangor, with a further 25,000 people living the surrounding suburbs and outlying villages.
As a general rule this is among the wealthiest areas of Northern Island, due in part to its great commuter routes to Belfast. However the Bangor Ring Road has a string of deprived housing estates that are out of character with the area.
Bangor is an affluent town, attracting a lot of tourists and also having one of the largest marinas in Ireland. Two new shopping centers and a range of entertainment options make it a great place to live.
Houses in this area range from rural cottage properties up to very large modern properties. Georgian town houses are a particularly attractive choice for those who can stretch to it, but the affluence of the area is driving prices much higher than the average asking price.
Bangor University helps support a diverse rental market, and also maintains a good nightlife and culturally diverse population.
