Located in South-West London, at the point where Inner London becomes Outer London, Mitcham is a great area to look at housing. Close to Wimbledon and Tooting, and with good links to Waterloo and Victoria, prices here are a little more reasonable then other parts of London. A mixture of old buildings, and the huge green space of Mitcham Common, give a really nice feel to the area and promote a sense of community. Crime rates for the area are relatively high, particularly for anti-social behaviour, but there are no real hotspots within the area, just a generalised slightly elevated crime rate.
Primarily the area is made up of larger family homes, but recent flat conversions are becoming more common on the market. Small properties are quite unusual here, unlike other parts of the City, there are very few Studio and one bedroom properties.
As in most of London, there's a steady rental and purchase market, with houses frequently becoming available. Of course homes nearest transport links are a little more expensive, but the whole area is reasonably priced and a great base for those working in London.
