Situated just over 50 miles from London, Hastings sits on the coast of East Sussex and is renowned for being the site of the famous Battle of Hastings (although this actually took place a little way away in 'Battle'). A popular tourist resort, Hastings has seen its fortunes rise and fall over the years although currently she is experiencing a boom due to investment in the town such as the new Jerwood Gallery on the sea front.
There are excellent amenities in the town and it has the benefit of a thriving sea front ranging from the traditional fishing areas to the more colourful arcades. Travel links are extensive with lines to London, Brighton and Ashford and the A21, although often very busy, gives access to the main motorway network via the M25.
Hastings has four secondary schools, 18 primary schools and one college of further education making the area a good place for families. Property ranges from town-centre flats and bedsits to extensive terraced housing and older very substantial terracing both converted and unconverted. There are also new developments offering the full range of accommodation.
