East Ayrshire is a Scottish county of which the largest town is Kilmarnock, a thriving metropolitan town which is proud of its status as one of Britain's friendliest shopping towns.
The place to be really is Kilmarnock with its huge (friendly) shopping complex, good transport links to Glasgow and excellent choice of schools.
Depending on the area you choose, property options differ wildly. Some areas offer terraced houses for under £100,000 whilst slightly further out of town are multimillion pound mansions with grounds and several bedrooms. There's everything in between as well but East Ayrshire would be best suited to young families, possibly on a bit of a budget.
The M77 takes you straight to Glasgow from where you can travel country-wide so for those needing to work in Scotland's second city, East Ayrshire offers a very cheap alternative for family homes as well as a stunning retirement location.
