The Essex town of Benfleet is home to around 48,000 people. Benfleet is served by the A13 London road and lies very close to Canvey Island, with excellent rail links to London Fenchurch Street. The town is also handy for London City Airport. There is plenty of green open space on nearby Hadleigh Downs.
Benfleet is in prime commuter territory and this tends to be reflected in the house prices. You'll find the most exclusive and imposing properties around the Vicarage Heights and Hermitage Avenue neighbourhoods, where large detached houses and ample gardens are the norm. The part of Benfleet that stands "on the hill" is widely recognised as the most desirable area of the town.
There is a significant amount of modern building in Benfleet, mostly aimed at the family home market. If you're looking for more characterful homes or traditional old-style housing, then the conservation area in South Benfleet is your best bet. This contains the old village centre, as well as some fine Victorian houses.
For more competitive and affordable properties, try the area around Avington Walk and Hazelwood. This part of town is also the place to look for flats and apartments, although these may be in relatively short supply.
