The town of Bedford in south east England has excellent rail links to London St Pancras, London Bridge and London Blackfriars stations. Bedford is very popular with commuters. The town is served by the M1, A1 and A6 and is handy for Luton and Gatwick airports. Around 80,000 people call Bedford home.
Bedford's busy town centre has all the major chain stores, as well as a range of smaller independent shops. The Harper and Howard shopping centres attract millions of visitors a year, along with the up-market Castle Quay.
Bedford offers a broad range of housing types: flats and apartments, Victorian terraces, more modern semis and larger detached houses. Property in Bedford is quite competitively priced compared to many areas of south east England. Post-war and more recent building tends to dominate beyond the centre of town. If you're after a new build, try Wixams, a development of four new villages to the south of Bedford town centre.
For more exclusive houses, try the area around well-heeled Lilleshall Drive, Cryselco Close and St John's Street. You'll find mid-range properties and some bargains in areas around Massey Close, Britannia Road, Cardington Road and Hassett Street. You'll find good family sized homes around the Bedford Road and Hill Rise neighbourhoods.
If you're looking for a more characterful, rural property, try one of Bedford's outlying villages, such as Biddenham, Bromham, Oakley, Shambrook or Wootton.
