The East Sussex market town of Battle is renowned for its quaint old medieval streets, complete with cobbles and striking, castle-like abbey. The town has good rail links to Hastings, London Charing Cross and London Cannon Street. Battle is around 30 miles from Gatwick Airport.
Battle high street boasts many small, independent shops and the town's twittens (narrow side streets) are replete with cafés, delis, restaurants, galleries and boutiques.
Battle offers a range of housing options, from Victorian and Georgian terraces and cottages to town houses and modern semis, with bungalows and large detached homes too, especially towards the outskirts of the town. As Battle is prime commuter territory, you should expect property prices to be on the high side. You may also find there is less choice in the way of flats and apartments than in many other parts of the UK.
The surrounding countryside and nearby villages offer an array of cottages, many of which are rented out as holiday homes in the season. If you're in the market for a property of this type, there are many villages to choose from, such as Ashburnham, Crowhurst, Westfield and Whatlington.
