The Buckinghamshire town of Aylesbury enjoys a swift and regular rail service into London Marylebone station (around an hour away), making it a popular choice for commuters. It is also well-placed for Oxford, while both Luton and Heathrow airports are within easy reach.
The town is set to grow substantially in the period up to 2026 and much new development is underway, including a substantial number of new homes in an area known as Berryfields.
The more affluent parts of Aylesbury include Bedgrove, Stoke Grange, Elm Farm and Walton, where you might expect to pay premium prices for a family home. Watermead has a reputation as one of the best parts of town for buyers to consider. There is plenty of variety in the housing stock, which ranges from small studio apartments to terraced housing, semis, and large detached family homes.
The north side of town is dominated by local authority built housing and there may be bargains to find, if you are comfortable with estate living.
If instead you are looking for a more relaxed, rural way of life, some of the surrounding villages offer plenty of old-world charm, although property prices are sometimes hefty. Try Bishopstone, Dinton, or Quainton for chocolate-box prettiness.
