The Sussex town of Arundel is dominated by its castle and offers a bustling town centre, picturesque cobbled streets and a good range of shops. It is renowned for its "arty" and "cosmopolitan" atmosphere. The South Downs are on Arundel's doorstep and London's Victoria Station is around an hour and a half away by rail.
The town boasts a mix of traditional detached houses, Georgian and Victorian terraces, and more modern properties towards the edge of town. Arundel is popular with commuters and its rural setting attracts a large number of second-home buyers, too. Nearby Chichester is within easy reach and provides a greater range of shops, a small university and more in the way of night life.
Arundel's old town has a number of quaint cottages in its housing stock, and they command premium prices. There is also a good choice of substantial detached homes in their own grounds just beyond the town. Although much of the housing in Arundel is traditional, there is a certain amount of new development, but the resilient nature of the property market in the area means prices remain on the high side.
