The garrison town of Aldershot is home to over 10,000 soldiers and their families. The Hampshire town is fairly small, with a total population of around 30,000, but as a result of its army connections, it has more than its fair share of sports and fitness facilities, including an Olympic-size swimming pool. And with so many soldiers in town, its nightlife can be on the lively, if not downright rowdy, side.
There are plenty of small, reasonably-priced Victorian terraces in the centre of Aldershot, with 1930s and 1960s developments towards the edges of the town. Many of the latter were built as Army married quarters. Flats and apartments though, are in relatively short supply, throughout the Aldershot area.
Head to the south-east of the centre and out towards Farnham to find larger, semi-detached and detached houses in leafier locations. In particular, Aldershot offers a wealth of semi-detached properties to choose between.
The town is 50 minutes from London Waterloo by train, making it a popular destination with commuters. It is also an ideal location for investors looking to make purchases in the buy-to-let market, with rentals aimed at commuting city workers.
