Tunbridge Wells is a beautiful old spa town in Kent, 35 miles outside of London. It is connected by the A26, A267 and A21 and is 15 miles from the M25. Additionally it is well serviced by two railway stations and has express links to London and Gatwick. It is also situated relatively near the coast, 30 miles from Brighton and Eastbourne and has reliable bus links to each.
The town has a population of around 57 000 and boasts stunning Georgian architecture, nearby countryside and successful grammar schools. It is famous for its history as a spa town with tourists coming to bathe in the healing waters of Chalybetae Spring. Situated just outside the town are Rusthall Commons, comprising of 250 acres of wood and heathland. The town itself contains a lot of greenery including Calverley Grounds - a historic park with ornamental gardens, Grosvenor recreation ground, and Dunorlan Park, which is a whopping 78 acres.
It is also home to the huge Royal Victoria Place shopping centre and has developed The Pantiles - a newly built walkway with numerous independent shops and boutiques and which possesses a budding café culture. There is an abundance of restaurants in the town including the Michelin starred Thackerays restaurant. There is also the Assembly Hall theatre for the culture vultures and live music held at The Forum for those wishing to bop the night away.
A huge range of property is on offer in Tunbridge Wells although prices are quite high. The centre prides itself in its stunning Georgian townhouses and St Johns, The Village, Culverden and St James are highly sought after areas. For those on a budget Hawkenbury and Southborough are more affordable and still very appealing places to live. The surrounding villages of Frant, Goudhurst and Lamberhurst are also popular.
