Chatham is a large town in the North of Kent, in the South East of England. Historically its main source of income has been its ports, but in recent years property along the riverside and seafront have become attractive to new families with a middle-to-high income and a concern for their children's education, who desire strong transport links to the rest of the country.
As industry moved away from the ports, the centre of Chatham has become a viable location for residential and retail developments. Many properties which are both historically styled and surprisingly large are available in the old port region, whilst many smaller and more affordable homes are available in the quieter areas on the periphery of the main town. Properties tend to vary from small terraced homes to larger, detached three or four bedroom family properties in areas such as Walderslade, which were developed at the start of the 20th century.
