The county town of Herefordshire, Hereford is situated on the river Wye just east of the Welsh border. As a major population area it is known as being the distribution centre for the products grown and manufactured locally. It is an old established town with early town charter dating back to Richard I and has long been recognised as a city in its own right.
There are regular train services to London, Manchester, Birmingham, Worcester and many areas in south Wales; however, only the A49, A465 and A438 run through the city centre. This has always caused severe congestion during the rush-hour. A new Enterprise Zone is expected to boost the local economy and improve vehicular access into and out of the city.
There are local leisure, sporting and shopping facilities and five colleges taking an intake from the many secondary schools in the area.
Because of the extensive history of the area, housing ranges from very old listed property to more modern developments and includes everything from flat conversions to substantial rural property.
