Gwynedd is a predominately Welsh-speaking area in north-west Wales which is large and sparsely populated. It has been the site of much controversy since a large percentage of properties are owned as second homes by non-Welsh speakers. This is felt locally to be a threat to the native Welsh language.
The area is a favourite holiday destination due to its natural beauty, with mountains, valleys, rivers, forests and castles as well as fantastic sandy beaches. Property in the area ranges from caravans to flats and small houses and larger detached properties of brick or local stone construction. Tourist demand continues to support high property prices despite local efforts to keep costs down and free up housing for locals.
In terms of amenities Gwynedd is well served; however, due to the sparse nature of the population a degree of travel may be required to visit the varied theatres, cinemas and leisure facilities. This seclusion, whilst occasionally inconvenient is also a major attraction.
The average house price for property in Gwynedd is currently £214,021, 30% lower than the national average value for all homes which is £305,064.
The standard deviation of house prices for the results of this search is 157,831.
94% of the live properties are houses, however 6% of them are flats.
