Student houses can often be found in the inner city suburbs of large towns and cities that support one or more major universities. Typical student houses are terraced or semi-detached properties with 3 to 5 bedrooms, and communal facilities like lounge, kitchen and bathrooms; en-suites are rare but can be found in some more modern digs.
Sharing a house with other students keeps rental costs low, and turnover from year to year is high, so landlords and agents have been known to minimise their own maintenance costs as a result, although various legislative protections brought in over the years have improved matters. However because the purchase value of these properties can also be low, they can provide a good yield for a landlord.
