The Rhondda Valley is a very famous coal mining area of Wales with strong links to the cultural and economic history of Wales. This is borne out by the large number of Welsh language speakers, many of whom also speak English but choose to speak Welsh. Rhondda is not an affluent area with 4 bedroom properties near the top end of the market available at 250,000 and at the lower end of the market a terraced 3 bedroom house can be bought for less than 40,000. 550 pcm is nearer the top end of the market for rental of quality 3 bedroom homes, so the price range of properties in the Rhondda Valley is very affordable. The rental market is not buoyant though as there are simply not enough properties available across all home types from flats to detached properties. The same can be said for the sales market with only a small number of properties for sale available at any one time.
Due to the physical geography of the Rhondda Valley there have always been problems with the transport links, aside from the Rhondda Line which is the sole rail link for the area; it is only the A4058 and A4233 which serve the area by road.
