When and in what style a property was built can have a huge impact on your buying decision. For anyone who doesn't know a great deal about property periods it can seem a little nonsensical. Basically if a property is described as 'Georgian', it's referring to the period from 1714-1830 when four King Georges were on the throne. The Georgian period was the days of Jane Austen, Gainsborough paintings, grand country houses and majestic city crescents. Properties from this period are considered more attractive and therefore more valuable than houses built in the post war period. Structurally these properties are sound but are renowned for having concealer gutters and stucco facades which can let water in. Some describe Georgian houses as "all fur coat and no knickers" so make sure you get a proper survey commissioned before you purchase.
