Don't we all dream of one day living in a sun soaked thatched cottages in the Cotswolds? Well, perhaps not everyone, but cottages are a generally deemed as a desirable, countryside dwelling in the UK. Often snug and cozy, cottages can be found all over the country but many rural villages like Abbots Ann in Hampshire are almost completely populated with quaint, picture perfect cottages.
Referred to in the Domesday Book as Coterelli, a cottage used to be defined as a habitation with at least 4 acres of land. These days, the term is used more loosely and even "mock cottages" can be found in a number of British inner cities.
